Research & InterestI'm interested in the conjunction point among different disciplines: computer graphics, virtual reality (VR), human behaviour, perception, neuroscience and eletrophysical signals. I've always been interested in learning how new technologies can help to develop new applications.
My PhD has two major focuses. The first one is the human brain response in Immersive Virtual Environments. I'm interested in the underlying brain mechanisms that determine what's real and what's virtual; seeking for real responses to virtual environments. I study how EEG can help us measure the neurophysiological traces of virtual stimuli processing in the brain. As well as how EEG through BCI can help us produce embodiment on avatars. The second stream of my PhD is to study the possibilities of using virtual reality for empatic applications. In the future I want to transfer all this research to a real application with benefits for the general public.

Integrated Computer Assisted System for the design and construction of houses with industrialized methods. Founded by Spanish National Plan R+D+i 2005-2008.
Participated while working in the ARC Research Group.
Mar Gonzalez Franco completed her PhD in 2014 at the EventLab UB, under Prof. Mel Slater's direction in the context of the European Project VERE. She was awarded a three years FI-DGR 2011-2014 fellowship given by the Generalitat de Catalunya (AGAUR) co-funded by the European Commission - European Social Fund (EC-ESF) to pursue her studies.
During her PhD she was Visiting Affiliate of the MIT Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 with a BE-DGR research grant (AGAUR).
In 2013 she did a summer internship at Microsoft Research working with Dr. Philip Chou at the Multimedia, Interaction and Communication (MIC) group in Redmond, USA.
Previously, she studied Computer Science & Multimedia Engineering, (best academic curricula award 2008 in Universitat Ramon Llull). She holds a MSc in Biomedical Engineering from UB - Tsinghua University, her Master thesis was completed in Beijing China with a UPC-Barcelonatech 2010 fellowship.
In 2013-2014 she did a Post-doctorate at University College London's Virtual Environments and Computer Graphics group (UCL-VECG). And then started an Immersive Technologies Laboratory in Airbus UK.
